People out here battle droughts, floods, bad seasons and isolation, compounded by a culture of keeping quiet about emotional issues.
Not Dead Yet gives these stories a voice and gives a nod to the resilient and creative people who live in the bush.
This project involves taking old work hats and Akubras and giving them a new life, proving something good and new can come out of a seemingly hopeless situation.
We are asking for any donations of old work hats from the community which will be photographed, repurposed, exhibited and auctioned off raising money for charities dedicated to supporting rural people.
We need all hats by October 1, complete with the wearer’s story. Leave your name, where you live and what the hat has seen.
Drop off points are Outback Arts Gallery, Coonamble, Lost Sea in Lightning Ridge, Belinda Butler at ‘Yeranbah’, the Marra Creek School, Muddy Waters Cafe in Brewarrina, WOW Centre in Warren, Cobar TAFE, the Walgett Library and 2WEB in Bourke.
Stay tuned for more details about this exciting initiative!
