This exhibition celebrates the link between food and clay
Ceramic tableware and local produce are next on the agenda at Outback Arts Gallery with the exhibition From the Ground Up opening on Saturday, October 31. Presented by the Coonamble Ceramics Collective and terraluca, this exhibition will be showcasing their handmade functional ceramic tableware in varying styles and designs. At its core the exhibition will be exploring the link between food and clay. This link will be further celebrated by hosting two ‘farm gate to plate’ style events at the Outback Arts Gallery. These dinner experiences will include freshly harvested produce, local lamb and foraged foods from the area as well as the amazing local preserves and condiments from the community. And of course all these goodies will be served up on the unique handmade dinnerware.
The concept behind the exhibition was the brainchild of terraluca artist Anna Kaineder with the support of Outback Arts. Together they applied for the Regional Arts Fund (RAF) which provides grants supporting arts and cultural activities in regional NSW that are sustainable and have long term cultural, economic and social benefits. The successful application saw Anna become Outback Arts’ Artist in Residence for 2015 culminating in a community driven clay exhibition. As well as developing arts and cultural opportunities within the community, the exhibition will also highlight Anna’s new body of work.
Anna says she is excited by the opportunity to exhibit in Coonamble and she is pleased with how her craft has developed over the past year, as well as the positive community engagement.
“It’s really great for the Collective and myself to put on such an exciting exhibition. It is something really unique for our area and represents the spirit of our community by celebrating our farmers and the arts.â€
Our Regional Arts Developmental Officer Jamie-Lea Hodges, says she is very excited about welcoming such a dynamic exhibition to the gallery program.
“This exhibition is the first of its kind in Coonamble and we hope that this initiative will become an annual event†Jamie-Lea said. “Plus, we hope to get people thinking and talking about some projects that our local environment group have been working on including connecting backyard growers to create a growers exchange or local market.â€
