Encouraging coordination and
planning, information sharing, and resource-saving
in promoting access to visiting arts and cultural
entertainment, activities and education in the
region
Outback Arts aims to support the
growth of a regionally based presenter group
network. A presenter group is basically anyone who
organises or hosts an artist or tour.
Examples:
-
A school that hires a dance teacher
or children’s writer
-
A local arts council that books a
theatre performance
-
A pub or club hiring musicians and
entertainment
-
Festival organisers looking to hire
music or workshop artists
-
A Local Aboriginal Land Council
hiring a practicing artist to conduct workshops with
the community
-
A youth centre employing a web design
teacher to work with young people
WHY
BELONG TO A TOUR NETWORK
Because we could all be stretching
our time and resources a lot further! The Outback
Arts region holds some of the most remote
communities in NSW. It is not uncommon to travel
over 100km from one town to the next. For touring
groups the region presents many logistical
challenges - the cost of travel is high, and the
volunteer-run nature of much of the region’s
activity means that very often we’re not on the tour
radar!
The tour network promotes awareness
of ‘what’s in the region’. If for example you know
that there is a writer visiting a nearby town to
teach poetry you may wish to ask whether they are
able to visit your town too? You may be able to
lower travel expenses, or even broker a regional
tour discount (Outback Arts can assist with this).
A
traveling theatre group is visiting your town. The
local youth centre or school wants to look into
getting the actors to run a workshop for young
people as well.
