Peter
Houghton’s brilliantly written and performed play strips
bare the whole shabby business of Hollywood film writing.
The Pitch is set in the apartment of Walter Weinermann an
aspiring screenwriter, just before he is about to pitch his
screenplay to a heavy hitting film industry panel. We watch
as Walter practices pitching his film and tries to get his
story straight in time for his one shot at the big time.

All
performances are a partner-presentation between Outback Arts
and local presenter groups. The Pitch has been
scheduled for 7 performances in the Outback Arts region.

HOW THE
PROJECT CAME ABOUT…
Outback Arts was made aware that while communities were keen
to host a Critical Stages show the financial risk of
presenting was making commitment very difficult for
volunteers. In general the people and groups responsible
for putting on these shows are unpaid!
In response, Outback Arts called for expressions of interest
from the entire region and was able to coordinate a regional
tour of 7 shows for 2008 while successfully brokering a
group booking discount (a saving of 20%!)
Outback Arts Role:
§
Underwriting all 7 shows
§
Applying
regionally for a Performing Arts Touring ARTS NSW Guarantee
Against Loss (GAL) to cover any presenter losses (with
cooperation of volunteer presenters and in consultation with
Arts NSW)
§
Coordinating marketing in the region (liaising with Critical
Stages & Volunteer Presenter Groups)
§
Supplying
templates and info
§
Providing
advice and support throughout the tour
We are now working to secure a Guarantee Against Loss to
safeguard against losses sometimes associated with tours in
remote areas.
This followed the successful 2007 tour of Critical Stages
Bangers & Mash for which Outback Arts brokered a 20%
discount, obtained a Guarantee Against Loss through Arts NSW
Performing Arts Touring Program, and gave marketing
support...
Congratulations to all presenter groups for a successful
tour!
