Connecting Marks &
Country
A
24
week
artist in residence with the artist spending 4 weeks
in each of the 6 designated towns. Participants will be
introduced to research material (collected by Curator of
Koori History and Culture from The Powerhouse Museum) on
traditional and customary forms of artistic expression
relevant to their particular indigenous nations in the
Outback Arts Region. Workshops were completed in Cobar, Warren
and Coonamble in 2009. The artist withdrew from the
project in January 2010 and plans are now underway
to service the Shires of Bourke, Brewarrina and Walgett
with
workshops of another format to utilise the research
material collected for those Shires.
Schools Out Circus
Skills Program
Building on
the success of circus in the Outback Arts region and the
identified need for organised school holidays activities in
the region this project will seek to build skills and
develop and identify a community circus network which can
continue to foster a culture of circus arts in each location
in partnership with young people.
After last years success the project is
again planned for the July school holidays in 2010.
Indigenous
Visual Arts Special Initiative
The "Living Arts &
Culture" online resource and marketing space for
Indigenous artists in the region nears completion.
The unique site aims to promote but also connect
artists in the region while celebrating Indigenous
arts and cultures - alive in western NSW!
R.I.C.S. Strategy/RICDO
Program
Work continues on the
Outback Arts Regional Indigenous Cultural Development
Strategy (RICS) which seeks to support the development of
Indigenous arts and culture through a number of initiatives,
the main of which is the employment of a "Regional
Indigenous Cultural Development Officer (RICDO)"
Outback Arts continues to source funding to operate this
program that has been running for nearly a decade. In the
last year the position has been split into 6 part time
positions with a RICDO operating in each of the Outback Arts
contributing Shires with excellent outcomes.
