Songs in the Key of She

Songs in the Key of She – Coonamble

$1000 (grant from private provider)

The Moorambilla “Songs in the Key of She” (Coonamble Chapter) project promotes and encourages Coonamble women to sing together.  It provides skills and support for the development of a women’s choir which will work in with the 2007 theme of the Moorambilla Festival of New Australian Music which is “Women and Girls” (2006 supported men and boys).  Conductor and artistic/festival director Michelle Leonard came to Coonamble to host 2 women’s choir practices at the Plaza Theatre in Main Street.

This project raises the profile of women and gives them the same opportunity enjoyed by the “Songs in the Key of Bloke” ensemble which was so successful in 2005 (during the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus “Songs for the Outback” Tour) and 2006 (Moorambilla).

Songs in the Key of She also received an additional $1600 from Regional Arts NSW CASP funding for rehearsal workshops held on Fri 29 / Sat 30 June 2007 @ The Plaza Theatre
