Chairperson
- Amanda Colwell (Country Women's Association).
Amanda has long been interested in all arts and
crafts, stemming from talented teachers in her
school days. An interest in creating textile art has
grown from sewing traditional patchwork and
embroidery to rather more eccentric pieces featuring
recycles fibres. She is passionate about breaking
through the “sandstone curtain” when it comes to
bringing high quality cultural experiences to the
western parts of the State, and advocating for
artists working in relative isolation. She has
worked as a project officer and facilitator with
“Behind Closed Doors” domestic violence community
education and awareness programme. Amanda lives
50km north of Coonamble with her husband Ken and
they have 3 adult children. |

Meamei Women’s Group, Lightning Ridge) This is Christina’s
4th
year on the Outback Arts Board.
Christina is a keen supporter and worker assisting
and/or organising community events and activities.

Treasurer
- Cr. Pauline
Serdity
(Warren
Shire Council) This is Pauline’s eighth year on the
Outback Arts Board. She has previously served
as the Treasurer and Secretary and as Chairperson
from 2006 to 2010. She is a Councillor
on the Warren Shire Council, is a member of the
Warren Arts Council and Chairperson/ Secretary of
the Warren Interagency Support Services. She is
involve in many community groups including, Youth
Committee, Linking Women with Safety, MOW and
Community Transport, Nevertire CWA, Nevertire
Progress Association, Council delegate on the North
Western and Central Zone Library Committees and
recently as Treasurer of the Warren Hospital
Auxiliary. Pauline is LC of NSW Dept of Primary
Industries at Warren (part time), is a partner in
her husbands welding business and runs her own small
bookkeeping service. Pauline also holds a Diploma
in Business Administration, Cert IV in Workplace
Assessment and Training, and a Certificate IV in Business
Governance. |

Cec Dorrington
(Bourke
Shire Council)
This is Cec's 1st year on the Outback Arts Board and
is a Bourke Shire Councilor.

Angela Webb
(Cobar
Shire Council)
Holds a BA Psychology and Women’s Studies (Double
major) from Edith Cowan University in WA and is
currently undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in
Psychology through Charles Sturt University.
Angela currently works for DADHC disability services
as a Case Manager servicing Cobar, Bourke &
Brewarrina. She also undertakes work as a Generalist
Counsellor at Cobar Community Health. Angela was
elected to Cobar Shire Council in 2008, after
spending only 4 years in Cobar, originally hailing
form Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. (Yup – that
makes her a “Kalgoorlie Girl!”) Although she does not call herself an artist, Angela
dabbles in what she calls bush-tip art (fossicking
for remnants from the past and collating them on
corrugated iron) some abstract acrylic work and also
painting on tiles and porcelain. Angela has been
President of the Cobar Arts Council from 2005 to
2009 and is keen to further raise awareness of the
benefits of incorporating arts and culture within
her community. Angela has successfully integrated
the issues of mental health and disability into
Cobar Arts Council projects and is passionate in
breaking down the barriers and working with
disadvantaged groups.

Barbara O'Brien
(Coonamble
Shire Council)
In 1964 Barbara moved to the Coonamble District,
when she married local resident Ernie O’Brien. In
partnership with her husband they operated a viable
rural enterprise which included farming, welding and
a transport business.
Barbara worked as a registered nurse at Coonamble
District Hospital from 1982 until1988, when she
accepted a management position at Gulargambone
Hospital. She remained in a management position
until her retirement in 2005. Her responsibilities
included change and financial management as well as
policy development and implementation.
Her current community involvement includes Committee
member of the Gulargambone Rural Transaction Centre,
2828, Director Gulargambone Community Enterprise,
volunteer at Gulargambone library and fuel station,
and active member of the CWA.
Barbara believes our Councils;
need to provide the infrastructure and social
services to allow each of our communities in the
Shires to grow and prosper. Barbara aims to be part
of a consultative Council that aims to ensure
communities are working together, with appropriate
support, to meet the Shire’s needs of the future. |

Jane Keir
(Walgett
Shire Council),
was elected as a councillor to the Walgett Shire
Council in September 2008 and expressed an interest
in becoming a board member of Outback Arts because
she has a passion for the outback particularly Come
By Chance where she is a 5th generation
resident.
Jane says that she
has no artistic qualities
but always takes an interest in all things artistic
be it in any medium because art enriches our
lives.
Jane has been a Palliative Care
Nurse Specialist for 17 years travelling regularly
all around the Walgett Shire and beyond for the
Greater Western Area Health Service.
Jane & husband David are farmers
at Come By Chance and they have 2 adult children who
have flown the coup ! On Australia Day 2008 Jane was
awarded an OAM for services to nursing & to the
community of Walgett. |

Steve Baldwin
(two eight two eight, Gulargambone)
Steven is the representative of the award
winning two eight two eight community tourism
project which is the only registered gallery in
Coonamble Shire. He is also the Tourism
Development Manager for Coonamble Shire
Council. He has a background in
tourism/hospitality/ events & the military and
an interest in events and vocational training.
Before moving to the region Steve was formerly a
board member of the National Festivals and
Events Association (FEA) and Tourism Training
ACT & Region (TTACT&R) and is the current Chair
of the Great Inland Way Promotions Group
(Southern Chapter). As well as being a volunteer
at two eight two eight he is currently the
President. He is also the publicity officer for
the Coonamble Rodeo Association, Marthaguy
Picnic Races, Coonamble Streets Ahead & the
Coonamble Heritage Advisory Committee. Steve was
on the board of Outback Arts previously for 4
years including 2 years as vice-chair and was a
Director of Regional Arts NSW for 2 years. He
has just been appointed to the NSW Government
Industry Reference Group for accredited Visitor
Information Centres (IRG).

Philomena McCue(Lightning
Ridge Arts & Craft Council)
This is Philomena's 1st year on the Outback
Arts Board.
She is
currently
president of the Lightning Ridge Arts and Craft
Council. Philomena has been involved with art all
her life. She is a 'jack' of all trades in the
art scene from oils and mosaics to 'hoofing' it on the
stage and much more. Her passion at this time is to
link all the art venues in the Ridge so as to help
each other and promote art in all its forms, also to
bring the Lightning Ridge Arts and Craft
gallery out of the twentieth century. |
